Purrist
Kill the noise, preserve the sustain! Say goodby to hum, hiss, and buzz. Say hello to pristine electric guitar sound.
Effectively filters out AC interference, eliminating buzzing, espacially from single-coil pickups.
Utilizes an expander-type noise gate that smoothly reduces any kind of noise
Employs a dynamic shelving filter to cut out high-frequency noise during string decay.
The guitar hum is mainly caused by two factors - electromagnetic interference from electrical installation and poor/lack of grounding. Electromagnetic interference usually affects the guitars with single-coil pickups - it's pretty much guaranteed to happen to some extent.
If you own a guitar with single coil pickups, the best upgrade you can make is shielding your guitar. You can ask your local luthier to do that for you or even do it yourself if you have some basic technical and soldering skills. Buzzing won't magically disappear, but it will decrease in volume.
Grounding issues are much harder to diagnose and fix as each case differs.
No matter the cause, you can greatly improve it using the Stray Cat Purrist plugin.
Noise gate is a device that mutes the signal when it's below the set threshold. Typical noise gate completely mutes the audio. Expanding noise gate attenuates the signal proportionally to the volume. Purrist goes one step further and removes as much noise as possible while preserving the guitar's sustain.
Not yet, but it's coming! I have focused on AUv3 (Audio Unit v3) first because the growing iPad music community have a special place in my heart. The choice of iPad music software is still limited, that's why I decided to make the best AUv3 noise gate on the market. But I won't forget about you desktop users, just give me some more time.
For now, Purrist is iPad and Apple Silicon Mac only. But iPhone version is on the roadmap.
