Frequently Asked Questions

Why is my guitar humming?

The guitar hum is mainly caused by two factors - electromagnetic interference from electrical installation and poor/lack of grounding. Electromagnetic interference usually affects the guitars with single-coil pickups - it's pretty much guaranteed to happen to some extent.

How can I prevent the guitar from humming?

If you own a guitar with single coil pickups, the best upgrade you can make is shielding your guitar. You can ask your local luthier to do that for you or even do it yourself if you have some basic technical and soldering skills. Buzzing won't magically disappear, but it will decrease in volume.

Grounding issues are much harder to diagnose and fix as each case differs.

No matter the cause, you can greatly improve it using the Stray Cat Purrist plugin.

What is a noise gate?

Noise gate is a device that mutes the signal when it's below the set threshold. Typical noise gate completely mutes the audio. Expanding noise gate attenuates the signal proportionally to the volume.
